A little about us, and why we do, what we do, the way we do

a brief history...

Born in Grimsby (some time ago), I went to Wintringham Grammar School as it was then, after which I started work on Immingham docks in a shipping agency. After a career that involved jobs ranging from publican to project management

I joined BSM in 2003 and trained to be a driving instructor. During my time with BSM, I became their Senior Instructor and Mock Test Examiner covering their Norfolk area

In 2006, I created 21st Century Driving to run alongside my BSM franchise with a view to developing a dynamic system of driving lessons that would enable learners to play a more active role in their training, and have some control over how long their training would take, and how much it would cost

As the project developed, it became evident that more and more time would be needed to support it. So when BSM announced changes to their structure which would limit my availability, I decided it was time to devote myself 100% to the new venture and launched the driving school as a full time entity

If you do any research into how long (hours) it takes to learn to drive, you will come across countless references to "the DVSA recommend you have 47 hours of training and 25 hours of private practice". The DVSA part is correct, this was their recommendation some time (20 years) ago, but a lot of driving schools keep trotting out these out of date numbers for all sorts of reasons

We don't work like that. Our most popular training programme is just 36 hours long, and it is successful. We have countless examples to prove it. However, it does mean that you have to commit to the programme and the learning techniques we use to reduce your training hours by 25% and therefore the overall cost. So are you looking to save 11-12 hours or a couple of pounds an hour, you work it out

You will still learn all you need to know to become a competent and knowledgeable driver who is more than capable of passing their driving test at the first attempt. That being said, it is up to you to perform on the day, and apply everything you have learned to the test drive with the examiner. There are no guarantees in this world, it is up to YOU to pass your test

Over the years, we have refined our training methods to reduce the amount of lesson hours required to prepare a student for their driving test. Our 36 hour training programme has proved success and popular over the years and was revised at the end of last year to incorporate the new test requirements without losing any content

This is a 3 module course each being 12 hours long, delivered in 6 x 2 hour lessons. It is possible, once the theory test has been passed, to cover the 2nd and 3rd module in a reduced timescale, meaning this programme can give an accelerated training course for those that wish to reduce the overall timescale of their training

Now, before you go worrying about sending a lot of money to a driving school you don't know, we want you to hang on to it. That's not how we do things here at 21st Century. We always strongly recommend that you take advantage of our 2 for 1 offer, that's a 2 hour assessment lesson where you pay just £25 for 2 hours in the car

We can meet, and assess each other. We can tell you what we think you need to do about your driver training, and you can decide whether you're comfortable with and in the car. No big commitment just do the assessment and see what you think
